A well-loved European classic ticks all the boxes for me. This 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing has to be at the very top of my list of greatest cars of all time, and if I were to do a Rally or Tour, this is the car to do it in. As you slide inside, the Sterling Moss wheel greets you, and the worn-in leather tells all the stories of past tours. Although it doesn’t wear its original colors of special order White over Cream Leather Interior, the Rudge knock-off wheels more commonly found on alloy-bodied 300 SLs are original to how the car was delivered. It is a little difficult to get into, but once you’re comfortably snug in the driver’s seat, there is nothing else of this vintage that compares.
In the gallery below you can appreciate the patina and the look of those fantastic Rudge Wheels. Though it’s not original I’d keep it just as it is and drive it as much as I could before returning it to its factory clothes.
And it’s still available at RM Sotheby’s and they are asking $1,700,000 USD.
Some bonus Studio Pics at the end of the gallery!
